Holocaust

I think it was very good that we had the opportunity to listen to a victim of the holocaust. Especially since there are debates of whether this event actually occurred it is important for us, the next generation, to see first hand the effects of the holocaust on the people who lived through it. It was such a terrible event in the history of our world but because it occurred we can now avoid situations like this in our future. She was such an amazing lady and it was a great privilege to be able to listen to her and get input on such a terrible time. She was very patient and answered everyone’s questions, which was very informative. It was an incredible experience and I’m glad I was able to have it.

Diversity

I believe that diversity is something that we all need to work on. Here at apu our level of diversity is somewhat pathetic. I was raised to view people in a way that i dont look at people of color differently than I look at white people. I have friends of many different races and I think that is important because it opens my mind to different cultures and different ways of thinking. I am very glad that we were able to have this discussion because i believe that it is important for everyone to be on the same level. By getting things out in the open we are only helping to situation and by having discussions like this we are growing closer to resolving the problem of racism.

Global Vision Week

Over global vision week i was not able to attend very many of the events because they were mostly during when I had classes. I was planning on attending one of the movie showings but i was not able to because I had preview weekend activities that i was obligated to go to. Even though i was not able to attend any of these activities I have a passion for overseas ministry. I have been the Nairobi, Kenya twice and have found a love and passion for the people who live in the slums there. It is amazing to me how such a little sacrifice on my part can mean so much in the lives of the African people.

porn, sexual abuse, and body image

One thing we talked about while we were in our alpha group was that it is easy to know how God feels towards us. We are beautiful in his sight and he made us in his image. It is something that we have all been raised hearing and something we all have embedded into us. However, it is harder to act out and truely believe. I know that God loves me and thinks Im beautiful but sometimes I dont feel like i am. Through our talk I realized that because I dont believe that i am beautiful or that others are beautiful I am making a personal insult toward God. We are all God's creation and we need to realize that and the text time we are tempted to criticze or talk bad about someone we should make an effort to remember that.

addiction

I liked how instead of avoiding the topic all together that the leadership realized that these things are present and that they need to be talked about. I think it was good because people at all different stages could relate to it in some way. They talked to people who had drank and applied the message to them, which is what is most commonly done but they also had something for those who had never drank. I liked the point that one of the guys had because he had never drank but still wanted people to be able to come to him but most people didnt feel like he could because he had never experienced it. I thought this was interesting because I fall into the category of someone who has drank and I saw where he was coming from because I never go to people who havent drank to talk about my experience because i feel like they dont know what i have been through and I dont want them to judge me. He gave me a different perspective and to know that just because someone hasnt experienced something doesnt mean that they cant talk to you about it.

3 things

1) I would like to make a genuine group of friends who i can be real around and who can be real around me

Strengths: I think all of my strengths can help me with this because when your in a relationship with someone and you are yourself you bring every aspect of yourself to the table and my strengths are part of who I am so it would just make sense.


2)I would like to improve on my public speaking because speaking in front of crowds has always intimidated me.

Strengths: well the obvious one would be communication because it is "public communicating" that i want to work on. I think adaptability also because it can allow me to change directions quickly if what I'm doing isnt working too well


3)I would like to make an effort to spend more time with God

Strengths: I think that achiever might keep me from this because I will have a task that i want to get done and find it hard to take time for God. I think adaptability can help because it enables me to go with the flow and allows me to go where god wants me. I think communication will help because it helps me when talking to others, for example prayer. I think maximizer and developer are irrelevent in this sense

Developer:

"The genius of Developer talents lie in your ability to see the raw potential and incremental progress of others, and to actively invest in furtherng that development." A person with this quality is said to see potential in others, but sometimes it is only potential that they see. They see each person as a working progress with many possibilities. I think this is somewhat true of me but it is untrue to say that all I see in others is potential. On the other hand I have high expectations for others because I have high expectations for myself which would go along with the achiever quality.

Maximizer:

Someone with this quality seeks out strengths in others. This tends to make them avoid others who want to make them well-rounded and seek those who recognize and appreciate their strengths. They want to make the most of the gifts that they are blessed with. They tend to see strengths in others and have the capacity to see what people are best at. This describes me very well because I feel that I myself constantly strive for excellence in whatever I do. It is easy for me to pick out the strengths in others and to help them realize the potential that they have.

Achiever:

An achiever is someone who has a constant need for achievement and will feel dissatisfied if by the end of the day does not accomplish their goals. This person is always busy and is often called a "workaholic". They also are very self motivated and have a very intense drive. I think that some of these aspects describe me but they are a little extreme. I am very internally motivated and driven but I am not dissatisfied at the end of the day if I don't feel that I've accomplished things. I also believe that this quality contradicts the adaptability quality that I have.


Adaptability:

Someone with this quality lives in the moment and sees their future as something we create by the choices we make. Adaptability allowes one to respond to the needs of the moment and on some level looks forward to distractions. A person with this quality is very flexible and can remain productive even when pulled in many directions. I believe that this quality describes me perfectly. It is very easy for me to be in a room full of people and still be productive with getting my work done but also engaging in conversation. I believe that I am very flexible and am able to completely change directions without objection. Overall I am very confident and comfortable with change. This quality allows me to move forward even when the unexpected happens.


Communication:

Someone who has the quality of communication sees an idea and brings it to life. They like to talk and are good at holding the attention of others. They are also good at explaining things clearly and are masters of telling especially captivating stories. A communicator might be criticized by others for talking too much. This description is completely me. I usually find myself talking in class and being the one to entertain others. I am a good story teller and I believe that this strength has grown as my personality has developed.
